Umbral is an AI-news reader for iPhone. It reads nine sources — Hacker News, arXiv, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, MIT Technology Review, TechCrunch, The Verge, Simon Willison and Hipertextual — scores every story against the topics you follow, and delivers the best of them as one short briefing, once a day. It exists because the problem with AI news is not finding it; it is that there is far too much of it.
The scoring happens on your phone. There is no account, there are no servers of ours, and nothing about you is collected or sent anywhere — on either plan. Umbral fetches the feeds directly, the same way your browser would, and everything it learns about your interests stays on the device.
The notch is your threshold — nothing to its left reaches your briefing. Move it, and the briefing changes. Nothing is hidden from you: the "All stories" screen lists every story Umbral held back, with the reason.

It fetches public feeds directly from their publishers, scores stories on your device, and keeps your topics, your reading history and your archive on the phone. Umbral is free: three topics, twenty saved stories, and three written notes a day. Umbral Pro is an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) that lifts all three — every topic, an archive with no ceiling, and unlimited written notes. There are no ads on either plan; Pro is what pays for the app.

No. Umbral's own text — the interface, the briefing, the written notes — follows the language you choose. Headlines and excerpts are shown exactly as the publisher wrote them. Rewriting someone else's reporting is not our place, and a machine translation of a headline is a good way to change what it says.
The two-line note explaining why a story matters to you is written by Apple Intelligence, which needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later. On every other iPhone, Umbral shows a measured breakdown instead — which topics the story matched and how closely. That half runs on every iOS 26 device and is never limited by your plan.

Umbral es un lector de noticias de IA para iPhone. Lee nueve fuentes — Hacker News, arXiv, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, MIT Technology Review, TechCrunch, The Verge, Simon Willison e Hipertextual —, puntúa cada noticia según los temas que sigues y te entrega las mejores como un resumen corto, una vez al día. Existe porque el problema con las noticias de IA no es encontrarlas: es que hay demasiadas.
El filtrado ocurre en tu teléfono. No hay cuenta, no hay servidores nuestros y no se recopila ni se envía nada sobre ti, en ninguno de los dos planes. Umbral descarga los feeds directamente, igual que lo haría tu navegador, y todo lo que aprende sobre tus intereses se queda en el dispositivo.
La marca es tu umbral: nada a su izquierda llega a tu resumen. Muévela y el resumen cambia. No se te oculta nada: la pantalla «Todas las noticias» lista cada noticia que Umbral retuvo, con el motivo.

Descarga feeds públicos directamente de sus editores, puntúa las noticias en tu dispositivo y guarda tus temas, tu historial de lectura y tu archivo en el teléfono. Umbral es gratis: tres temas, veinte noticias guardadas y tres notas escritas al día. Umbral Pro es una suscripción de renovación automática (mensual o anual) que levanta los tres límites: todos los temas, un archivo sin techo y notas escritas sin límite. No hay anuncios en ninguno de los dos planes; Pro es lo que paga la app.

No. El texto propio de Umbral —la interfaz, el resumen, las notas escritas— sigue el idioma que elijas. Los titulares y los extractos se muestran tal y como los escribió el editor. Reescribir el trabajo de otro no nos corresponde, y traducir un titular a máquina es una buena forma de cambiar lo que dice.
Las dos líneas que explican por qué una noticia te importa las escribe Apple Intelligence, que necesita un iPhone 15 Pro o posterior. En el resto de iPhone, Umbral muestra un desglose medido: qué temas ha tocado la noticia y con cuánta fuerza. Esa mitad funciona en todos los dispositivos con iOS 26 y nunca la limita tu plan.
